A Letter To Mr. Irsay

Before the noise starts—and the debates about rosters and direction kick up—I want to start with the person who lifted this city’s football heartbeat.

Thank You, Jim Irsay.

You didn’t just build a team—you lifted a city. You changed Indianapolis forever—and your name will stand among this city’s legends.

Yes—you brought an NFL franchise to this city, the dream of every teamless town. But this isn’t about the franchise. This isn’t about football. It’s about the hope, the inspiration, and the unconditional love you gave the people of Indianapolis.

Scroll social media and you’ll find countless stories of you changing a stranger’s day— or their whole life. And here’s the kicker: most of it happened off-camera. No PR team. No spotlight. No expectation of a thank-you. You’d hand a fan—or just a neighbor—hundreds of dollars out of nowhere. At the end of the day, you looked out for Indianapolis.

To the rest of the country, Indy gets labeled bottom tier. Nobody circles “vacation” next to our name. But you made this city home, and you treated all of us like family. That mattered. You made us feel seen. And we won’t forget it.

You didn’t just bring Indy a Super Bowl—you gave the city life.

Rest in peace Jim. You will be missed and your name will live on forever.

Fly high. Go Colts. Thank you, Jim.
